Hi Weston,

I was talking about elements allowed inside a rdg. This doesn't seem like to best choice anyway, now that I have more time to consider it. Another possibility would be <div type="x-alternate"> or something like that.

Peace,

David

Unfortunately, the Manual does not reflect the XML Schema here. Looking through the Schema, the "rdg" element is only referenced as being the child of:

note (noteCT)

p (pCT)

Is this an oversight? Even so, how would the <rdg> element represent subordinate passages?

Peace,

I realized that there doesn't seem to be a way torepresent subordinate readings inline with the scriptural text. Forexample, the pericope of the woman caught in adultery in John 8 and theending of Mark are both usually encapsulated in single square bracketsor double square brackets, to indicate their judged originality. Howwould this be marked up? The <rdg> element? In the schema, lookslike the <rdg> element is allowed inside of paragraphs and insideof notes. What if the reading itself contains paragraphs?

Likewise, for Mark 16, there are two alternate endings: one long andone short. Can a <rdgGroup> be used in which there two<rdg> elements containing all of the markup for the two alternateendings? Would Would would the 'type' attribute value be forrepresenting content deemed not original?
