Right, I was answering Chris' comment that seemed to say that if someone 
wanted to render the text differently, then it would warrant adding the 
<paren> tag.  My point was, "maybe they would, but even other things we 
tag aren't always rendered differently"

I think we agree complete.

I don't really care about the significance of the parenthesis in this 
particular passage of Scripture.  I only pointed this one out so as to 
show that even <paran> will cross crazy things like verses AND chapters 
(<div>) and start midverse, which is even uglier to tag with segmentation.

All that aside...


Now, do we want to add a <paren> tag?
Do we want to provide XML markup <paren> to replace traditional markup 
of '('?
