I can find no way to view Strong's numbers in an open
Bible. Is this feature gone from 1.5?  A show-stopper
for me - I use it frequently

Hi,
it's not gone, it has improved :)

Note the small window in the lower left corner of the
screen. Open a Bible with strong numbers and move your mouse
over a word which has an assigned strong number. The
information about the number will appear on the information
display in the corner.

Does that work for you?
