I think Joachim replied to that email and detailed why we cannot use the 
builtin filters. I can't find his reply thoug. =(

There are several reasons why we cannot use the builtin filters. One of them 
is that we use CSS for the frontend formatting (our display templates), which 
is not possible without writing own filters.
