Hi,
could you try the following?

cd $HOME
mkdir .sword
mkdir .sword/mods.d
mkdir .sword/modules

and then try again to install from a remote source? Curl support seems to be 
compiled in.

It's no difference if you use an athlon or 586 rpm on an athlon, perhaps a 
little bit more speed. Functionality will no be different.
