I'd suggest using the sword-config, once we make it, to find out the settings

sword-conf --modules-path
usually /usr/share/sword

sword-conf --modules-path-local
usually /usr/local/share/sword or /usr/share/sword

sword-conf --modules-path-personal
usually $HOME/.sword

would that work?
