The mandrake kde3 is still not quite up to par, but once you find out about it's
quirks it works OK.
Based on a problem that developed for me, I would suggest not trying to run kde3
on and existing user area that prevously had kde 2 run on it.  At least when
using the mandrake rpm's that install kde3 and leave kde 2 on the system.  The
result may be a system lockup, and a user area that only opens when gnome is
selected.  kde applications still work for the most part inside the gnome window
manager.

My suggestion is to create a new user and run kde3 in that.  Your existing area
will still open in kde2 unless you select otherwise in the login box.
