The reason there was a conflict was the fact that kdebase (I think) 
copies qvariant.h into the KDE include directory.  Since I had built KDE 
base (from KRASH) before and installed it, it was the old version of 
qvariant.h  Thus, when I mailed the KDE-dev list about it, David Faure 
told me to update my Qt version....  When I installed KDE base this 
time, it was not updated.  I think it probably was left over from an 
older compile.  Check the timestamp on it if you want to be sure....
