First of all, check that your KDEDIR is set to /opt/kde2.  This is the most
important step.  I think that Mandrake (since about 6.x) defaults KDEDIR to
/usr.  Next, remove your old config.cache file and do a ./configure.  Check to
see that ./configure configured your KDE dirs correctly.  Once you have that
done, you can just do a make and then make install, assuming you get a clean
compile.  I've been doing this for about 5 months and it's worked for me.  The
big thing is to make sure that the Makefiles are using /opt/kde2 for your KDE2
dir and not /usr.

command line options to get it to compile so that the binaries are in
the opt/kde2 directory when the installation is done.
