Overview

Here are some notes on identifying versification systems based on text (presence of verses, order of books, etc.). For now it will simply be some white-boarding.

O (OT), A (apocrypha), & N (NT) indicate possible testaments in each v11n.

Systems

Some identified versification systems include:

GNT

(N)

This will be a component of other v11ns, not to be used as a separate v11n.

Used in: NRSV(A), LXX, & Original v11ns

Book order: Matt, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Rom, 1Cor, 2Cor, Gal, Eph, Phil, Col, 1Thess, 2Thess, 1Tim, 2Tim, Titus, Phlm, Heb, Jas, 1Pet, 2Pet, 1John, 2John, 3John, Jude, Rev

Leningrad

For Hebrew Bibles, more specifically those based on the Leningrad Codex.

Masoretic Text. For Hebrew Bibles and a few translations (e.g. the JPS translations into English). Books are ordered according to rabbinic tradition.

This is not a valid v11n for module making (i.e. Not supported by osis2mod).

This consists of OT + Apocrypha for the Greek Septuagint.

Vulg

Latin Vulgate. Malachi has 4 chapters.

The v11n of many Catholic Bibles, for those Bibles with 16 chapters in Esther.

Orthodox

(OA)

A v11n based on the LXX, but using a different book order and fewer books.

Synodal

(OAN)

The v11n of the Russian Synodal Bible and related Bibles. (Psalms includes Ps 151)

Book order: In the NT, the General Epistles precede the Pauline Epistles.

SynodalProt

(ON)

The ParaText Synodal Protestant v11n as used by IBT for Bibles containing protocanonical books only. (Psalms excludes Ps 151).

Book order of NT is same as for Synodal.
