In Korea, iOS only support one font - Gothic Korean letter.
In fact, Gothic font is not comfortable font to read.
So I'd like to use other korean font for reading korea bible.
I suggest the app offer using external font by coping the user font to certain app folder.

For example "Hancom Office Hanword Viewer" offer that feature in iOS.
The app has "Font" folder, and I copy the font I want to that folder, and I can use that font.

I am having problem with ESV version, sometimes the OT will go missing when I switch from NT or vice-versa. I have to delete the ESV version and reinstall again. Then it would be fine for a while.
Never had this problem in the previous version. What can I do?

Do you have a programme for iPhone?
Until 10/2008 the iPhone SDK license did not allow us to create GPL licensed software for it. This has changed and there are some plans for iPhone software. Currently, the planned front end is exactly that, planned. When coding is underway, you still won't be able to run the program directly on your iPhone without going through the AppStore, unless you pay the money for the Apple developers' program. However, once a version is running reasonably well in the Apple simulation software, it will be released, free of charge, to the AppStore. Check back here for updated information, as it comes available, and as the implementation of the program gets underway.

We have Bible studies and the lessons reference many Bible verses. I would like to enter all the references for a lesson easily. As we go through the lesson, we would go to each verse, so please, let it be easy to jump to the previous and next verse we have bookmarked.

My current solution is highlighting each verse and taking a screenshot. I then put all the screenshots in a new photo album for the lesson. I like being able to swipe to the next verse.

Please, make it easier to enter bookmarks into a folder. For example, let me type all the references in a text editor, copy and paste the list to a textbox to import it as bookmarks in a folder. Another example, let us import bookmark folders from a text file in a CSV format or JSON.

An easier way for you, would be to accept URLs for a reference to the app, so we could make webpages link to verses. When it opens, jump to and highlight the verse(s).

When clicking in a daily devotional for a bible passage, it is generally an entire chapter. This makes the popup preview pane much to small to be usable. Making it resizable would help, but it would make more sense and intuitive to load it into the main bible window instead. I can work force this to happen by clicking a passage link in the preview pane and then closing it.

In the King James Version (1769) with Strongs Numbers and Morphology, it would be very helpful and easier to have an option to indicate words with a Strong's reference as "Underlined" instead of numbered. As you can imagine it is less distractive than the numbering. It is something that I became accustomed to using the Mantis Study Bible on the iPhone/iPad. This is just a suggestion for an enhancement. eSword for the iPhone and iPad is a blessing for me, please continue this project and I can't say Thank You enough.

I use Thai bible (ThaiKingJame) and when I search ...example I want to search "Isaiah" (in Thai alphabet..อิสยาห์) the result don't show wholly.
I try to change search function to all, any or exact the result will show 12 verse. But I try to use Andbible (for android) it show result 54 verse.

And I try to use Xiphos search it can show 54 result correctly. Then I try made new search index from Xiphos but.... result still show 12 verse.

And I have a private Bible that created from Thailand Bible Society the result of serach fuction worse than ThaiKJV Bible it show 10 verse. I try other words some word can find fully but almost can not.

If you have had the iphone in one language (i had it in swedish), and read the bible, the history gets updated. if you switch to another language (i switched to english) on the iPhone, and try to open something from the history that was created in the other language (swedish), it opens the right bible version, the right verse number, but in the same book as is open and i also think the same chapter (i guess th book references in history are stored in the language that was used)

When you scroll, the active verse number at the top bar is updated when you release the finger.
It could be nice if it is updated as you have the finger down and is dragging.
now you can basically drag it quite a bit and it may be a few verses off.
I tend to look at the number when i drag.
if i wanted to open a certain verse number in the same chapter i might drag until i see the rigt number in the top bar.

The headings in this bible, are visible in BibleDesktop, AndBible etc.

Background: This bible module was created with usfm2osis.pl.
The OSIS xml of this bible has <title> tag.

I can see the pink reference numbers in the bible mode but even if I tap on it nothing happened.

I am forbidden to browse the web. Therefore, because this app can be used to browse the web, I was forced to delete it. Although I have deleted Safari from my iPhone, web-browsing in PocketSword is possible when the hyperlinks in the information sections of certain modules are clicked (e.g. in John Lightfoot's commentary, the hyperlink for www.bf.org can be clicked to access the webpage). If the hyperlinks for all modules were disabled, then there would be no way for web-browsing in this app, and the problem would be solved.

I've been unable to download modules. I'm a long-time Sword user on Linux, Mac, Windows, etc. and a system admin. I could get the list of modules fine with a refresh, and the download starts, but stalls and never finishes. I first tried to download MHC (which I know is big) and let it go for 30 minutes. I'm on a 10 Mbps connection with my wifi access point 10 feet away, full signal. This is on a 1st gen iPod Touch with iPhone OS 3.1 something (latest for 1st gen). I also tried the ESV which should have downloaded in under a minute, and it's been thirty minutes. The display shows

There is a Bookmark function, but what I really use is a Notes function! A TOP function would be to sync Notes in PocketSword with your own MacSword Notes on the Mac! I saw that Manfred Bergmann has helped so you already have a good connection.

I think it's good with a possibility to choose different icons for different type of topics. I may be influenced of using Olivetree now, but I like the function were I can organize the Notes in different folders.

This was essentially a built in Note/Memo page where you could write notes and copy scriptures during teaching, sermons etc. Afterwards, you could export the Text for later reference, syncing to desktop etc.

Currently iPhone doesn't permit fast switching of applications making effective note taking very difficult. Thus the solution has to be a Memo "inside" PocketSword. This idea based on Palm Bible+ memo feature (also based on the Sword Project) as the PalmOS also permits only a "single application" to run at once.

Requirements:

Fast access - Toggling between the Bible and Memo is vital for effective note taking (1)
Export to Notepad or similar fee Memo Application (2)
Copy of selected text in Bible or Module into Memo (3)
Copy Scripture reference (4)

Notes:
1.) Perhaps move bookmarks to the History/Search tab and use that space for Memo? A slide side-swipe would be iPhonish, but that currently navigates chapters.
2.) Export the Text to the standard iPhone Notes or other freely available memo application which would permit sorting and sync in the usual manner. Suggestions to what "Note application" would be best for exporting to would be appropriate.
Even if export was only added later as copy/paste could suffice for now, would it be possible to add a basic text notepad ?
3.) Probably no coding required with the feature available in iPhone OS already
4.) This would be the actual reference of the bible text eg. Romans 1:8
This feature was added as switching between Applications is just too slow for taking realtime notes and with it built in it makes it seemless, efficient and fast.

One useful feature would be that you could add a strong's word as a bookmark too.
And they would be among the other bookmars in the folder showing the full explenation of a certain strong's word.
If you have added a strong's word to a bookmark folder, the other verses in that bookmark would have that word underlined if the current translation is using strong's
If there are several strong's words added as a bookmark, they would need to be in different colors so that you would know which is what.

You can't get to the last verse of a chapter.

The display at the top always shows the verse at the top of the screen.
As it limits scrolling to the last "page" it means that the "top" verse of the last page is the last verse number displayed as opposed to the actual LAST verse.
This is usually unnoticed until you want to link the last verses with commentaries, especially the likes of TSK (Treasury of Scriptural Knowledge) which is just a list of cross references. etc, where it can often be difficult to establish where each verse "commentary" starts and the use of the verse indicator in the title bar is vital.

The one way to correct this is to limit the scroll to the last verse rather than keeping the end text at the bottom of the screen. Thinking about it I suspect that currently it is likely not a coded piece and the scrolling probably simply stops when there is no more text to show.

The app should be able to combine into one commentary data everytime a part of the commentary gets downloaded.

This is useful for individuals/companies to write quiet time contents (like daily bread)
I think the nature of QTs are nothing but short commentaries. (most of QTs are I think. Tho, with daily bread, I think they sometimes write
something that has no relationship with the reading verses)

When Progressive commentary is updated, it should ask or automatically jump to the verses which is updated QT is written for.

So from the user's perspective, PocketSword can also be used to read QT and have another commentary updated periodically (hopefully daily).

Technically rather easy, but this needs involvement of others, which is the hardest thing. Maybe not something can be done in a short-term in
PocketSword project internally.

Example: Smith's Bible Dictionary, entry for "Abigail", cross reference for 1 Sam 25:14 does not show quotation marks with ESV, but does with NET.

I checked MacSword for comparison purposes, and MacSword shows both. But, the quotes are different types, which may suggest that the problem is with the Bible encoding .

The standard "repository synchronize" capability, as provided in the engine.
Xiphos provides this both as the mechanism to initialize its Module Manager in the first place, as well as providing a Load Standard button by which to force synchronization with the standard list, if it should ever change.

I know you have problems with the name CrossWire Beta vis-a-vis AppStore, but you can always hack the names post-sync to change them to 1 & 2.

I synced the iphone with the new install.
Opened the pocketsword right away (did not "shut down") the iPhone or anything.
Hadd a swedish transaltion open (since last time i used it)
clicked the history/search icon
it was on history.
clicked the sarch tabl
it asked if i wanted to install a search index.
i answered yes
tapped on the search index for Svefolkbibel1998
the download bars were visible
the app closed itself

First I have really longed for this program, a Sword Reader for iPhone/iPod Touch, be blessed!

When I first saw the SDK and the tool with the "Rolling Bar" that is used in many Apps, I thought myself it would be nice for navigation of a Bible. But honestly it's much faster with buttons (see attachment). You get a better overview of the books!

I understand this is 1.0.0 and it's great, but I will give some input because I like it and want to use it as my daily Bible Reader, so this is not to criticize, I just want to make proposals.

When a verse is being quoted in a service, choosing book chapter verse with iPhone default dropdown is too slow.
With a hard Bible, those who are used to the Bible can open the page almost precisely, then gets to the page by fast flipping Some pages.

a window with 6 rows, each row with 280 width can make up 1680 dots. One dot represents a chapter. That should cover the whole Bible. The user can simply tap a point on a row to join directly to a chapter

When searching for a word in the dictionary, typing a letter on the when before a typed word does not update the word list.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Go to the dictionary (any module would do)
2) Type any letter (BAL, for example)
3) Go to the start of the word and type A.

The list should move to show a list of words starting with ABAL but nothing happens.

With a possiblity to see the strong's numbers when reading in a certain transaltion would make this the ultimate bible studying app.

Let's say I am reading in a swedish translation that lack strong's numbers. And i then discover that a certain passage might use the same original greek/hebrew words as another passage.

I tap a "strongs" button in the bottom bar, and get my translation that has strongs numnerings, which i have set to KJV with Strong's numbers, i tap on the word "son" in Romans 8:14 wich i was reading, i see what it is in the original greek.

Then i wonder, is this the same word that is used in a certain other passage? In the word explanation view, I tap a button that lets me see all occurences of that particular word, i see all verses with that word highlighted. if i tap on one of the verses, a new tab is opened and i get to the right place in the book/chapter (either in you standard reading translation or the one that had the strong's numbers).

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge pop-up links referring to the present open book of the Bible, take you to Genesis or other books. All tags that are in the present book, for instance at Psalm 1:1 under "Blessed" TSK lists 2:12; 32:1-2; 34:8; 84:12; 106:3; 112:1 etc. and should pop-up with Psalms 2:12; Psalms 32:1-2; Psalms 34:8; Psalms 84:12 etc, but goes to Genesis 2:12, Genesis 32:1-2; Genesis 34:8; Exodus 34:12; Deuteronomy 3:3, etc. So far as I have found this only happens when you try to pull up the pop-up verse window. I had noticed this earlier and thought it was just sending to Genesis, but found today that it was all over the place.

Thanks for all the work on this. I use it each morning and really love the speed I can survey a topic in the Bible with this electronic wonder.

PS displays module images in some contexts but not all. In my NET and NETnote modules, NET has an image in the heading of all 1:1, and NETnote has an image in all n:1. The modules are ThML. NET's content has this form (from Gen 1:1):

Perhaps it is significant that the image in NET is in pre-verse heading between <div></div>. cf. display as seen in e.g. Xiphos.

It would be really good if you were able to open the related words from the strong's dictionarys directly.

If you look at the "Acts 22:12" link in the picture you see that when you tap on a passage it changes color slightly during the touch but nothing happesn when you have clicked it.
It would be good if it would open that passage if it is possible.
For instance Job 32:7-8 would open and focus Job 32:7

As i changed from Strong's dictionary to Swe1917Of the app shows the dictionary but is stuck on "loading". (showing the loading animation)
It also shut the app down.
When i restarted the app, and directly selected dictionary it shut down again.
When i restarted again, opened commentary before, that worked, bookmarks worked, but when i chose dictionary it remained in the "loading" state.
this time it did not shut the app down. It has now been loading as long as it have typed this message...

This issue is trivial i know..
anyway..
i had earlier the "verse per line" setting on, i tested to have it off, and noticed that there are differences in row spacing between verses.
I don't know if this is necessarily a bad thing. At least in my book version of the bible the line spacings are the same.

The lines that have a (superscript) verse number in it has 6px more distance to the above row than other lines.

[PS-23] Difficult to understand Dictionary search if Strongs numbers is the active one

I guess the current version of the dictionary search function is not designed to be used for Strong's numbers per say.
(it used great when i used a "normal" dictionary with continuous search as you type... i really like that function)

however.. before i tried that i had strong's selected and thought i would search what words there are for faith.
It got a bit confusing when it started to jump to a certain number (05617) with the first keystroke and staid there as i continued to type FAITH. (the word 05617 was Hosee (i.e. Hosea)

After i changed to a glossary kind of dictionary (Swe1917Of) it worked really good. (although the last 15 words in that dictinoary had empty explanations)

On this release it's only possible to scroll one chapter and you have to manually chose the next chapter in the Navigator.

I want it to be totally seamless, so you can scroll through the hole Bible, between chapters and even scroll into the next Bible book.

here is one thing i noticed.
When i opened a dictionary that i had downloaded.
I had downloaded both Strong's greek and hebrew. I had open the greek, and at the top of that dictionary list there was one link that said
Dictionary of Hebrew ... (with a lot of whitespace before it)

When i opened that link, it shoed it's title in the top bar so that i could not press the "Done" button to get back.
I had to close the application and open it again to be able to get it back to the original list (not having that item open)

It seems that when you scroll down, the verse that is topmost visible is the verse that is shown to be "active" in the top navigation button.
the number changes when the top part of a verse comes to the top-edge of the viewport.
And continues showing that versenumber until the next-one comes to the top edge.

it might be a good idea to adjust this slightly, because fon instance in picture IMG_0837.PNG you see that only half of the active verse is visible. Could it be good to have the "topmost fully visible verse" to be the active one?

Also, I wanted to bookmark the last verse in a chapter, i cannot because i can't scroll it fully up to become the active one.

[PS-10] enhanced loading indicator when changing chapter

This is a minor issue...

At first when i pressed the "next chapter" i didn't immediately realize that it was "processing my action".
i noticed then the "loader animation" in the top bar.

I think it could be a good idea to enhance the "i am processing your action right now" feeling when changing chapters. either have the animation more visible or at a different location. possibly even removing the current content to emphasise that something is about to happen.
(according to some research, i think, if an action takes more than 2 seconds without indication, the user feels that the application is unresponsive... but i might have the number wrong..)

One option would be to replace the current text with a message that the next content is being loaded.
or then, if it is not too cumbersome to implement, have the next content sliding in (and the animation taking about as long as the loading of content takes, approx 5 sec on my iPhone).

However, it might be a good idea the have the next and previous chapters cached, so that they would emerge quicker when the user want's tp view.
