The command line tool installmgr can do this for you against one

installmgr -sc -r CrossWire -rl CrossWire<br>

Note the first column. It will tell you the status of the module

I don't have a script, but Xiphos' module manager provides a
view of<br>
repos including a refresh indicator, when a repo's module
version stamp<br>
is lexicographically newer than the already-installed
version.<br>
