Many thanks, Daniel.  I already have libsword-dev.  I did want to build
my own copy and install it in an alternate location.  A few of the
utilities are not included (e.g. (thml|xml)2gbs), and I wanted to try to
build them for experimentation.  I realize they may be broken.

I will try your suggestion.
