http://www.crosswire.org/sword/develop/index.jsp is a good starting point. You 
can also check the sourceforge page at 
http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/sword/ which has the source. If you're 
cvs savy you can dig around on the sword homepage and find the server and 
login info and so forth.
