Quite strange, indeed.  I removed the options.conf & layout.conf.
Loaded sword, it worked fine (except for bringing up an error for the
Audio Bible because this system doesn't have RealPlayer, so I switched
default commentary to something else).  Then I put the old options.conf
& layout.conf back in the sword directory.  Tried sword, and it worked
fine.

I've got a feeling it was a problem with the Audio Bible all along.
Please ignore me. :)

Everything is now working properly & it looks great.  It would be nice
if changes took effect immediately though.
