  Greetings,

Attached is almost the next proposed candidate for release as OSIS 1.1! 
I have summarized the changes and other matters below. Please start 
banging real hard on this, i.e., creating some texts so we can isolate 
and fix any remaining bugs.

Element name changes:

Steve suggested that <line> become <l> and <lineGroup> become <lg> 
(conforms with TEI usage). I have made all the appropriate changes.

Element additions:

Added elements <milestone_Start> and <milestone_End> which should be 
used along with their "type" attribute (which is defined, see below) for 
crossing hierarchy situations. The truly empty milestone has a full set 
of types as well.

Note that <milestone_Start> and <milestone_End> are linked by bearing 
the same osisID.

osisID: General syntax: work:Book.Chapter.Verse (for bible references). 
If you want to indicate a smaller division, use splitID, which is 
defined as an integer and can be used as a sequence number, in case you 
wish to indicate alternative ordering.

osisRef: General syntax:

Todd: can you turn this into a schema regex? I don't have all my stuff 
with me and am too tired to make it work tonight.

Are we saying there's no rel between the tokens in the ososID attr (like ordering). They are separate tokens; cannot be used to map from one to the other.

You can't assume they are identical in terms of being a normative inter-system mapping, just because they co-occur in osisID. They can nonly be used safely for mapping, for the current text.

This is merely a list of alternate tokens by which this thing can be addressed.

How do we generate the display form for a ranged one?

Do the tokens have to be in sort order? No. Because of other disordered cases: First, whole verses may be re-ordered (or even bigger chunks), so code has to deal with non-monotonic osisIDs; second, for some non-Biblical canonical reference systems there may not be a clear sort order, likewise Esther number vs. letter issue.

HOw does this .a/.b thing relate to splitID?

Problem w/ XPath solution: want contains-token('Z.1') so we don't accidentally find 'BAZ.1'. Forward on to XPointer WG. CSS has this.

But we don't have this problem because none of our book abbreviations are prefixes of other ones.

If ref is in the default/local refsys of the current doc, would only need one token, since that's what the local system defines.
