I figured this one out, partially! Thanks, Eeli and Sue.<br>

I had previously looked at QT4 Settings under Preferences. There is a
Font tab for setting system font for QT4 apps: the default was Sans
9pt. I had changed the size to 16pt and saved the settings, but nothing
happened.<br>

This time I also changed the font to Liberation Sans, and the size to
16. Now Bibledit appears with good-sized text in the menus, etc. It
looks like perhaps "Sans" is not an automatically installed font in
Ubuntu? <br>

I'm glad to have this mystery solved!<br>

However, my mouse pointer is still miniature in BT. I have it set for a
black theme and as large as possible, which isn't too big on the XO
screen. When the mouse is pointing inside BT's titlebar it looks big
and black, but when it moves down into the active windows it reverts to
tiny and white.<br>

Does QT have a way to set this?<br>

The basic UI font size is set by Qt. I think it's a Qt or desktop
environment bug if it's not set the same as the general UI font of the
desktop (if there is any desktop environment used). However, there
should exist qtconfig application (which may be named differently
qt4-config or something) from which the font can be set for all Qt
applications.
