2.4 broke in the same way once I updated my sid pbuilder.  I then fixed 
the issue by added Build-Depends: on zlib1g-dev and libcurl4-gnutls-dev. 
  I still don't know what changed in either BT or sid, but here we are: 
it seems to be fixed now :)

I hope to upload BT 2.4 packages for Jaunty and Karmic to the PPA 
shortly, and to make Debian sid packages available for Roberto to check 
and (hopefully!) sponsor later tonight.
