I have tried this on ubuntu 9.04 and kubuntu 9.04 and see the problem of 
dropping onto the main windows with both. This was with Qt 4.5. On 
ubuntu 8.10 I compiled with Qt 4.5 and also saw the problem. I then 
compiled with Qt 4.4.3 and it was somewhat different. Sometimes it 
worked and sometimes it did not work.

I think that the problem is not with the Qt version, but something about 
our main window implementation of the drop. I will look into this 
further this weekend.

P.S. I have not been very active the last couple of weeks. I have had 
other things on my mind. We went through a 25% layoff where I work. I am 
still employed there.
