do I add this like so

make -f Makefile.cvs -DSTATIC_BUILD

or like this

I'll see this would involve moving more libs out of the way. Not that it 
can't be done.

I'll keep working on this and see what can be done.

I've tried but my system just hangs if I try to move some libs out of the 
way. And no matter what I do it seems to prefer the dynamics over the static 
libs even if I manually edit the makefile and add -static in everything.

Also Martin for whatever reason justa a simple static works best I tried your 
ideas and a few others from the qt mailing list and -static works best at 
least on my system.
