Sure but I can't even figure out how to get into cvs. I' ve got another 
project on sourceforge and I can't even get it checked in. 

All I've been doing is anonymous checkouts to get the cvs code.

this whould be pretty simple just let me know what some of the other

Yes all the files are under /usr so if you install using -prefix it 
should install wherever you tell it. The /etc/sword.conf is created by 
a postinstall script so this will not be affected.
