I think you have hit the nail on the head.  Message here: Don't try and do
it from work!  I'll try again from my PC at home, or maybe wait until I get
an external Modem and do it direct from Linux!

You sure are persistent at trying to get everything!  ;-)

Are you behind a firewall or proxy?  If port 2401 is not allowed by your
firewall (or your ISP) then that could be a problem.  Otherwise, I am
clueless on this issue.
