MACSWORD BETA 2.2.0-1178 QUITS ON LAUNCH

I started with a clean install, having removed every sword or related file I found on advanced search.

This problem has existed since the first beta release, and so far no suggestion of Manfred's or any other user has altered the outcome.

Please, help if possible, or I may finally give up on this app.

Re: MACSWORD BETA 2.2.0-1178 QUITS ON LAUNCH

Crash logs? I have a very similar setup, with a MacBook Pro running 10.6.3, and I haven't had issues. Go to Console in Utilities, and find the latest MacSword crash log.

Also, beta versions crashing is not a shocking sight in testing software. You can always use the stable versions if you find it frustrating, but the more of us willing to help improve the software, the better!

Do you Skype? If you would like me to help you out over a screen share chat, please PM me with contact details.

Re: MACSWORD BETA 2.2.0-1178 QUITS ON LAUNCH

Thanks chasm.
Problem is that none of the versions since 2.0 is working for tomeg.
I know him from the MacUpdate.

Yeah, as suggested, if you both can sort out to get me a crash log I can tell what the problem is.
But I suspect it is the problem some had with an old existing module base which for some reason makes the new SWORD engine version 1.6 crash and pulls MacSword with it.
My advise always was to delete the folder ~/Library/Application Support/Sword and then restart MacSword. Tomeg, did you try this?

I tried several times to reply to your post with the crash log text, but am met with an error message each time.

Do you have an email address to which I can send the data?

Thanks.

The system error I get when I try to post my reply is:

"Error executing SQL in PostDAOImplJDBC.create."

The crash log is a very long body of text, perhaps that explains why I cannot post it here.

Yeah, the database we are using has a limit in the size of a thread entry.
Click on my profile name you should see the email address there.

Re: MACSWORD BETA 2.2.0-1178 QUITS ON LAUNCH

Alright, got the log.

Thread 0 Crashed: Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread
0 org.crosswire.MacSword 0x0006f9a7 sword::SWMgr::augmentModules(char const*, bool) + 1351
1 org.crosswire.MacSword 0x000198f1 -[SwordManager reInit] + 869
2 org.crosswire.MacSword 0x0001a0ef -[SwordManager initWithPath:] + 219
3 org.crosswire.MacSword 0x00019ff9 +[SwordManager defaultManager] + 82
4 org.crosswire.MacSword 0x00009b1d -[AppController applicationWillFinishLaunching:] + 117

This tells me that it is exactly what I proposed.
The SWORD engine dies while loading any of the module folders in ~/Library/Application Support/Sword.
Now again my question, have you tried to delete this folder?

In case you don't know, "~" is a short form of your home folder which is something like /Users/tomeg or whatever your user account name is.

Or, you can open Terminal (in Applications/Utilities), and paste this code in:
sudo rm -f ~/Library/Application\ Support/Sword

Enter your password at the prompt, and poof. Relaunch MacSword and enjoy. :D

Re: MACSWORD BETA 2.2.0-1178 QUITS ON LAUNCH

Thanks, all. At last MacSword works! :)

I did not realize that there might be a second MSwd folder, named "Sword" instead than "MacSword." My delete all related files software hadn't found it either. Now that the spurious Sword folder has gone, the problem appears fixed.

Thanks again.
