Brand new here and still looking around, but have used Bibletime in the past. I'm thinking about trying to get a project started for Android. I'd be interested in feedback, offers for help. I'm curious if the current iPhone project is Java based. If so, I'd be interested in leveraging what's been done for Android if I can. It seems to be the steps are: 1) Create a java wrapper for the API. 2) Create a UI All comments welcome. Thanks! |

Hi, The iPhone doesn't run Java. So, PocketSword is a mixture of C++ & Objective-C. I believe a little bit of work was started on an Android port a couple of months ago -- jump onto the mailing list at http://www.crosswire.org/mailman/listinfo/sword-devel and ask where it's up to. I believe it was Troy who was doing some work on it. If you were interested in the Java option, there is a Java port of the SWORD API & you could look into that? http://crosswire.org/wiki/DevTools:JSword hope that helps? :) ---------------------------------------- PocketSword Developer http://crosswire.org/pocketsword |

Android pads are being released buy many companies now. Eken has released the m001, the m002, and the m003 already. They are into the third generation. Archos, have themselves, release a few generations of tablets running on the Android OS That is just two companies of many. Just a surface scan on the internet shows many additional companies releasing their own tablets. I, personally, am not going to spend $500 on an iPad. I would love to get an android pad, and put The Sword Project on it. Then I can use it in church, and at bible studies. How great would it be, to look at root words, when doing a chronological study. I would love to update my own commentary in a bible study without lugging around a laptop. So I am asking, on behalf of all the people who want this on a tablet, but do not want to conform to apple, please, please, please, right a sword project for Android. Thank You. PS, If you do take on this project, an easy and defined way to synchronize your personal commentary and notes would be grand. I would upload to my gmail, then download to home pc and synchronize. |

Hi, There is a (Java) Sword Android project named And Bible. You can enquire on the mobile-devel forum (http://www.crosswire.org/mailman/listinfo/mobile-devel), or download And Bible from App Market, or check out the developers site (http://code.google.com/p/and-bible). It isn't as mature as Pocket Sword yet. Regards Martin |

Nic has heard this from me before, and, I think, would like to implement this, but OliveTree uses Evernote to backup and store notes online. If the Sword Project mobile apps could tap into this (the format is open and simple), that would be very convenient. ;-) -Jon |

hehe - thanks for the reminder, Jon. :) I've just moved house and almost have a desk at home again for the first time in many months, so perhaps we'll see some more movement forward soon? :) ---------------------------------------- PocketSword Developer http://crosswire.org/pocketsword |
