Hi I have been using the Bible online provided by Biola university at their site; http://unbound.biola.edu/. As well as the one for the telephone at; http://gobible.jolon.org/ It is my understanding it there is no copy right issue for these that is see. There at present is only the new testament in Gypsy, but it would be nice to have this in Sword format so I can use it side by side with the other languages. you can even download it in unicode at; http://unbound.biola.edu/index.cfm?method=downloads.showDownloadMain is it possible to convert this to sword format and redistribute it at the main site, woud be a great help to the work of evangelising Gypsys around the world. Of course we are working on a Cyrilic alphabet version as well and an old testiment. but for now this would be aa huge step forward if we can get our pastors copyies of good study bibles with tools like sword in thier language. That Bible has a 1984 copyright date. Without permission from the copyright holder, we cannot produce and distribute a Sword module. |

Oh forgot to add, I am looking at getting the rest of the bible translated into gypsy and perhaps in a more modern dialect. what is the best electronic format to do this in to aid it going into a sword file? ---------------------------------------- Yours in Christ, Donald C Phinney II http://donphinney.com |

The original location of these files on the web was at: http://www.miracleservers.com/rayida/ The site disappeared in 2005. However, you can still see a copy of the site at the Internet Archive: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.miracleservers.com/rayida/ Even better, the original .rtf files for the New Testament seem to have been archived along with the site, so maybe you could still do something useful with them, donphinney. On the site, there was this copyright and use notice: """ These books are copyrighted by IGP Inc, Ruth Modrow. Portions of these books may be reproduced for your own use, but they are not te be sold for a profit. Ruth Modrow """ Several years ago, I tried to contact Ruth Modrow or anyone at that site to try to get permission for printing out the New Testament for a Gypsy church in the Los Angeles area. I was never able to get in contact with anyone. Apparently some of the people at the church had had some contact with her before, but she had moved. They said she was fairly old when they knew her. I fear this Bible may be abandon-ware. At the time, we went ahead anyways and used a local printing service to print out a few dozen spiral-bound copies of the New Testament, selling them to the church at cost (thus hopefully abiding by the desires of Ms. Modrow). If Ruth Modrow really has passed on, I doubt she'd want the Gypsy New Testament to pass out of all use for the next 70 years (plus whatever further extensions to copyright length by Congress may be forthcoming), but who knows. I know Pastor Savka in Los Angeles. He is the 1st ever Gypsy pastor in the USA and has himself done an updated translation of the book of Mathew. I would bet he knows her and could confirm. But Gypsys are not huge on keeping written records. So that leaves us with the origional copy right. if we reproduce this bible and distribute without any hope of finatial gain. would this be legal, and in keeping with the copyright? I also see the Jesus army has re-printed it under the same copyright, and that their copy right also says Ruth owns it but gives seattle as the location of the copyright holder(I am currently in Seattle). Contacting the orgional holder of copyright might be difficult, but it does seem to allow for reproduction if not for profit (like sword project). If all else fails I could look into having a few of the pastors work on re-translating the NT in a more modern dialect of the Gypsy Language. is there and easy way to input that into a sword modual? is there a program out that makes pasting in verse by verse easy? or is there a common format that makes it easier for a Sword developer to input it, and yet is also easy for some of these pastors to work with. (Many are older and not so computer literate). The Old testiment also needs translated and I am hoping to help with that as well as get a Cyrilic version. any tools or advice would be helpfull. ---------------------------------------- Yours in Christ, Donald C Phinney II http://donphinney.com |
