Is there process being made for the NIV or NASB versions of these modules? I cannot really use this program as much as I'd like without one of these being included :( |

In the betamodules directory there seems to be a NIV.zip for windows. Sadly, it's not complete and the zip file will not extract here. Not sure about NASB. Note that the NIV has redistribution restrictions: http://crosswire.org/sword/modules/ModInfo.jsp?modName=NIV which means I doubt we'll see it in the near future. |

Sometimes folks think they're being sneaky and try to substitute NIV, NASB, etc. for the names of other translations in our download scripts in hopes that there are files on the server we're just not telling them about. There aren't. However, when people do this, the scripts try to package those non-existant modules for download and end up creating empty .zips in its working directory (one of which you've found). We're working with Lockman to make the NASB available soon. There is no process in progress for making the NIV avilable. |

I understand the reasons that the NIV, NASB, Amplified, Message, and other popular versions are copyrighted but they seem not to be availale for LINUX or sword reader and that is disturbing. Microsoft is not the only OS. My wife works at International Bible Society and explained that one thing their copyright on the NIV does is protect the translation from being corrupted by groups such as the J. Witnesses to name only one. Of course it also ensures that the publishers will not be "ripped" off after expending what is sometimes huge sums of money on the work. Literally hundreds of shcolars worked on or were consulted for the NIV and the TNIV. I am most concerned that the Bible Societies get on board with electronic versions or in a few years they could become irrelavent! If I want to share a scripturewith one of my current circle of friends then it will be via email or in some "modern" form. Yes, I read real books and love them too but that is simply not where the missionary thrust of today belongs except in third and fourth world countries. People are rapidly becoming more erudite as Daniel says in the last days. Knowledge is greatly increased. Sadly wisdom seems to be in decline. If there is something we can do to make the more popular versions available please let us know! Slim |
