Creating own Daily Devotional module - stuck on one date

Hello, I'm from Korea and trying to create a new module for daily devotions in my language. I am totally new to computer language (except some little childhood playing with html and javascripts..) and got a lot of help from the wiki guide and some tips from this forum.

It seems that not many people are creating their own daily devotionals so it was difficult to collect necessary information, but anyway I did make a sample file consisting of one month data. I do not have data for a whole year since I am using a bible-reading chart from my own church which comes out on a monthly basis.

I used Notepad++ to create a .imp file which basically goes like this:
(I did use Korean in the text parts like the one for 10.2)

$$$2013.10.1
<p> QT: <reference osisRef="Acts.12.1-Acts.12.25"> ACTS 12:1-25</reference></p>
<p>Daily: <reference osisRef="Jer.39-Jer.41"> JER 39-41장</reference></p>
<p>Proverbs: <reference osisRef="Prov.1">PROV 1장</reference></p>
<p>Psalms: <reference osisRef="Ps.121">PS 121편</reference></p>

$$$2013.10.2
<p>조용한시간: <reference osisRef="Acts.13.1-Acts.13.12">사도행전13:1-12</reference></p>

$$$2013.10.3
...and such

This is how I made the .conf file:

[QT_MS Church]
DataPath=./modules/lexdict/rawld/devotionals/moksan/moksan
ModDrv=RawLD
Description= Daily Devotionals for Moksan in RNKSV
SourceType=OSIS
Encoding=UTF-8
Feature=DailyDevotion
Category=Daily Devotional
DistributionLicense=Copyrighted; Free non-commercial distribution
Lang=ko
Versification=NRSV
About= Daily Devotionals for Moksan Babtist Church Members
LCSH=Devotional calendars.

I put the file moksan.imp inside the folder 'bin' and started importing.

For importing I tried a variety of commands and all of them didn't work except this one:

c:\program files\crosswire\xiphos\bin> imp2ld moksan.imp

This command made two files (.dat & .idx) in the 'bin' folder and I moved these into the folder path I made accordingly. (into the 'moksan' folder.)

./modules/lexdict/rawld/devotionals/moksan/moksan

the .conf file was put into this folder: ./mods.d

I zipped the ./mods.d folder and the ./modules folder together and uploaded to my iphone.

The link and text to today showed up smoothly, but when I tried to change the date the date would change but the links wouldn't budge. Can anybody fix this problem?

p.s.) I tried adding and deleting the index files made through Xiphos (though I don't know what this index means or is for) but same results..

please help me!! I don't know anything about programming and just followed similar guides for biblical texts so possibly I messed up with folder paths but I couldn't find the correct guides anywhere!!

Re: Creating own Daily Devotional module - stuck on one date

Hi there,

That sounds frustrating! Well done for getting that far :)

Taking a look at the wiki I spotted the following:

"For daily devotionals, you must encode the key as "$$$mm.dd", such as "$$$01.01" for January 1st and "$$$12.31" for December 31st"
from http://crosswire.org/wiki/DevTools:Modules#IMP_Format

Try that and it should sort it out :)

Thanks, ybic

Re: Creating own Daily Devotional module - stuck on one date

Thanks, Nic.

I had tried the code yyyy.mm.dd which I fished out from the OSIS manual, I think? but I assume that doesn't work here.

one other thing,

is this possible?

<reference osisRef=Num.9.15-Num.9.23, Num.10.33-Num.11.35"> A 1, 2 </reference>

or should I break it into

<reference osisRef=Num.9.15-Num.9.23"> A1, </reference>
<reference osisRef=Num.10.33-Num.11.35">2 </reference>

like this??

thanks!!

I think you can keep it as you want it to be. Give that a try. I know that you can have it as a listing like that but I'm not a module expert and so I'm not sure how to format it.
Let me (& everyone else on the forums) know how it goes. :)

Thanks, ybic

Updating the results;

I don't understand why, but the top one didn't work.

Breaking the links worked fine.

<reference osisRef="Num.9.15-Num.9.23"> A1, </reference>
<reference osisRef="Num.10.33-Num.11.35">2 </reference>

Everything works smoothly now, thank you so much!!

Hi Jen,

I'm not a modules guy so I'm not quite sure why the top one didn't work but there's probably something little that you need to change for it to work. If breaking them up works well for you, perhaps just do that? :)

I'm glad to hear you have something working, though! :) :)

Thanks, ybic
