Description

The SpaRV (Spanish Reina-Valera 1909) module is missing verses and verse fragments from various Old Testament passages where the verse numbering differs from the standard English (KJV) scheme. I skimmed the text in parallel view mode with the KJV to try to find the obvious gaps and have compiled a list.

I also found a few places where the text is corrupted, with repeated or missing phrases, misspellings, or nonsense like "fhfifhfi" inserted. I suspect there are more of these smaller errors scattered throughout the text, but I don't have an easy way to find them all right now. (Maybe someone with a lot of patience could run a Spanish spell check on the source or something?)

All of these issues appear to come from an upstream source from which the SpaRV module and other online Valera 1909 texts were converted automatically, however I have not been able to figure out what that source is yet. Obviously, it should be fixed, too, if possible.

The list of specific errors is a bit long, so for readability I have attached a neatly formatted version to this bug report as an HTML file. Feel free to contact me by email if there is anything else I can do to help.

This is an updated version of the error list; I found another missing verse at the end of 1 Kings.

I wrote a small computer program to scan the SpaRV module for all instances of the various sorts of errors I found manually, and the result was a pretty long list.

Also, I finally figured out how to edit a SWORD module, so I've created a new version (1.8) of SpaRV with all of the issues I've listed (and a few others) fixed. All that's needed now is for someone else to test it on another computer, and upload it to the Crosswire.org repository.

I have fixed a few more minor errors, and uploaded a new version, 1.9.

I fixed a few more mistakes, primarily missing or incomplete colophons for the Pauline epistles. I also tagged the colophons as such (using syntax I copied from the KJV colophons).

In addition, I decided to go through and add divineName tags where appropriate and remove unnecessary capitalization. In particular, the old version of this module started every chapter with a word or two in ALL CAPS. The new version now starts chapters with normal capitalization; I figure the ALL CAPS styling is something easily and better left to the various SWORD viewers to apply on their own, if they care to.
